My BFF's mom has sudden onset dementia due to anesthesia, with bilateral cerebral atrophy in the frontal lobes. She also has chronic pain from failed back surgery. Mom's home is in Westmoreland, but she is now living in Allegheny county (Monroeville.) Are there any local resources for respite, adult day or other care?
And how might she pursue speech therapy for a language deficit (word finding.) She has been assessed for stroke but that was negative. She has periods of clarity, and then complete confusion. Sometimes she just cannot find words.

Is there a program where someone can visit a senior who is homebound and really just needs some company? Like an hour or two every other day would be perfect!

I am trying to locate an individual, agency, church group etc. that can help my father. My dad lives in Elizabeth Township south of Pittsburgh. He lives alone in his home and he lost his major support and helping hand when my aunt passed away three weeks ago. He is 84 and legally blind (so he does not drive).
That being said, he is quite self sufficient -- he cooks, cleans etc. etc. and makes great coconut cream and pumpkin pies. We are looking for minimal care at this point -- driving him to the grocery store, doctor's, barber's etc.
We have offered for him to come and live with us, however he is not ready to make that Leap. Any ideas names etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Where can I get help with this matter?

My parents are older and they want to stay in their home. They live by themselves they have a son who lives with them part time . I have a child and a disabled husband so it is difficult for me to be there 24-7. My question is: is there anyone out there that can come to their home who is honest, and would help them a few days a week, and keep an eye on them when my brother and I can't be around?

What if a senior has nobody in the area and they can not identify a health care proxy, what options do they have? Are there any community agencies that can assist seniors that are all alone?
