Need Care Options for My Mother

by Admin 14. December 2009 18:41

I'll be moving back to the Pgh area and will need to make arrangements for my mother's care. What would be the best way to approach finding out what options are available?

You don't say what type of care your mother would need, but there are many options including care at home, adult day care, and programs for those who are nursing home eligible and want to stay at home (LIFE Programs). If you are looking for senior living arrangements, there are residences that offer independent, assisted living, memory or skilled nursing care, as well as CCRCs that provide all levels of care.

You may want to check with the Area Agency on Aging to see if your mother is eligible for their services.

For hands-on guidance and assistance, you could contact a Geriatric Care Manager who would assess your mother's needs, locate services, and/or help manage your mother's care.

Facility Placement Consultants can also assess your mother's needs and assist with locating the appropriate senior living residence for her. These professionals should already be familiar with local resources and facilities, so that might be very helpful to you.
