Parents Want to Stay At Home

by Admin 3. October 2009 19:32

My parents are older and they want to stay in their home. They live by themselves they have a son who lives with them part time . I have a child and a disabled husband so it is difficult for me to be there 24-7. My question is: is there anyone out there that can come to their home who is honest, and would help them a few days a week, and keep an eye on them when my brother and I can't be around?

I had a similar situation with my parents. It's very overwhelming. If your parents are on social security and don't have much money try the county aging department. They will come out and figure out if your parents can get some help from them. You could also hire someone to be there if you can afford it. Be care ful hiring someone. I had a bad experience and now I have an agency. They cost more but it is worth it. Good luck.

A Non-Medical Home Care Agency is the perfect fit.
Services should have reputable (background checks, bonded, insured, etc) Caregivers who are able to help elderly and disabled clients.
Services range from Companionship to Respite Care along with meal prep, housekeeping, bathing, transportation and much more.
Home Helpers provides FREE consults to all our potential clients to see if we can make your life easier.

Yes there is help for your situation.  Many folks want to stay in their home and Home Care Services help them to do that. Home Care Services provide supportive services when the primary caregivers are not available or just need a break.  Some of those services include housekeeping services, transportaion services, errand running, grocery shopping, help with personal care, comanionship and medication monitoring to name a few.

Some services, such as Caring Mission Home Care, have a team of geriatric care managers, RN's and healthcare clinicians who evaluate the barriers that affect your loved ones well being.  Upon completion of our assessment, that we can schedule at your convenience, a customized plan is developed to support the goals established with input from the family & client.

When considering a home care service, ask if the service requires a minumum number of hours of service and about their caregiver training. Caring Mission Home Care requires only a 2 hr minimum per week to get services started. In addition, our caregivers are put through an extensive 40 hour training program with ongoing training throughout the year. Also, caregivers should have a background check completed and services should be insured and bonded.

Please see our listing on www.TodaysSeniorResource.com, visit us on the web at www.thecaringmission.com or call one of our 4 locations in Fayette, Westmoreland, Allegheny and Washington Counties at our toll free number 1-866-922-7464.  I hope that answered your question.

To ensure the safety and quality of care for your parents you should hire a caregiver from a reputable agency, such as Senior Helpers. The caregivers should have prior experience, on-going training, supervision by management in the agency, a back-up caregiver in case the primary caregiver gets sick or needs a day off, and most importantly, the caregiver should be thoroughly screened with relevant employment references, personal references, criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks and tuberculosis screening.

Also, you should be assigned a caregiver who will be with your parents on a regular basis so they do not have a different caregiver on each visit. The caregivers can provide assistance with meal planning and preparation, grocery shopping and errands, light housekeeping, laundry, medication reminders, companionship and assistance with personal care, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting and incontinence care.

For additional questions about the services we could provide please contact Senior Helpers at (724)834-5720.
